What is a Bernedoodle?

The Bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle.  Bernedoodles are goofy, charming dogs who love to play outdoors just as much as they love to cuddle up on the couch. They’re the perfect family dog and have a special fondness for children. Plus, they inherit a nearly hypoallergenic coat from their poodle parent.  They were bred solely for companionship, so they love attention and lots of cuddles from their families.

The Australian Bernedoodles get the best of both worlds!  They are a wonderful cross between a multi-generational Australian Labradoodle to a Bernedoodle, and get the best traits from both their parents.  This combination  inherits an incredible temperament, one that is very gentle and friendly, from its Australian Labradoodle parent.  They will also have softer, silkier coats which are even less-shedding and more allergy-friendly than the regular Bernedoodles.

Colors

Bernedoodles comes in many different colors. Traditionally the black tri color which consists of black, white and tan or rust colors and will strongly resemble the Bernese mountain dog's colors. Bernedoodles also come in sable tri-color which will consist of any sable color, tan and white markings, and a Merle color.  We also produce the bi-colors which are most generally black with the white Bernese markings or chocolate with Bernese white markings. The Australian Bernedoodles genetic color code allows for many variances so we can get a jellybean effect of colors which we love as each one is individual.

Coat

There are different coat types in Bernedoodles.  Most Bernedoodles have soft, wavy hair coat that is low to no shedding that is friendly to allergy-sufferers.  Australian Bernedoodles acquire even silkier, softer coats from their Australian Labradoodle parent.

Brushing your Bernedoodle at least twice a week will make shedding less noticeable and will prevent matting. It is necessary to have your Bernedoodle clipped every few months; you can do this yourself or have a professional do it.

Size

We mainly focus on breeding Mini Bernedoodles and Australian Bernedoodles,  generally ranging weighing between 30-45 pounds, and standing at 19-22 inches at the shoulder. Females tend to be smaller than males.

Health

We here at Presidio Bernedoodles strive to give you the healthiest puppies we can.  We do our due diligence by testing OFA Hip,OFA elbow and OFA eyes along with recessive disease testing and DNA testing in all our sires and dams.

Health is possibly the greatest attribute for crossing the Bernese with the poodle or the Australian Labradoodle with the Bernedoodle. Bred to be smaller in size the hybrid cross are the the least likely to inherit congenital health problems, hip or elbow dysplasia, patella and/or eye issues.

Due to Hybrid Vigor of crossing two diverse gene pools ( Bernese & Poodle), Bernedoodles generally have considerably fewer health issues than either parent breed would have. Families are reporting that their Bernedoodles are living 11-14 years; basically double the lifespan of an AKC Bernese Mountain Dog.

Temperment

The miniature Bernedoodles and Australian Bernedoodles we produce are affectionate, moderately active, loyal, loving, goofy and gentle with other animals and children.

Training

As with all breeds, it's important to socialize your Bernedoodle puppy so she'll be comfortable and affectionate around new people, too. She can be very charming and charismatic with positive reinforcement training.
